Airtel Uganda has awarded UGX 100 million to Ugandans in the first phase of its nationwide Vroomula Amajja campaign, aimed at promoting cashless transactions and enhancing digital financial services across the country.

Launched recently, the Airtel Vroomula Amajja campaign is designed to reward Airtel Money users with prizes, including a grand prize of a new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SUV, motorbikes, and e-money. Last week, 18 lucky Ugandans walked away with new motorbikes, while others received e-money and other exciting prizes.

Among the winners of the motorbikes were Julius Ogeimungu from Zombo District, Omara Godfrey from Abim District, Wanyana Betina from Nsambya in Kampala District, and Obbo Godfrey from Kifumba in Kampala District.

During the handover ceremony for the first 18 winners, Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign’s success.

“We are excited to reward our first batch of customers and agents who have been making endless transactions with Airtel Money since we launched our Vroomula Amajja campaign,” Aritho said. “They have won e-cash prizes as well as motorbikes.”

Aritho emphasized the broader impact of the campaign, stating,

“At Airtel, we take pride in giving Ugandans a reason to imagine. Through this campaign, we aim to change lives, fuel dreams, power ambitions, and drive the nation towards a cashless future where every transaction opens a world of possibilities.”

Winners shared their joy and disbelief upon receiving the news. Julius Ogeimungu recounted his experience:

“I was at my construction site when I got a call informing me that I had won a motorbike in the Vroomula Amajja promotion, but I couldn’t believe it until a second person confirmed it. After cross-checking the number, I realized it was true. At that moment, I felt my life had changed completely.”

Similarly, Wanyana Betina initially thought the call she received was a scam.

“When I received the call, I thought it was one of those usual conmen trying to scam me, so I told my sister, who advised me to ignore it and go to work,” she said. “However, the thought kept bothering me, so on my way to work, I stopped by an Airtel shop to consult. They confirmed that the campaign was indeed real, and I jumped with excitement, knowing it was true that I had won a boda-boda.”

The Vroomula Amajja campaign, which will run for three months, is expected to reward more customers, agents, and businesses using Airtel Pay merchant codes. Participants can enter daily, weekly, and monthly draws by simply conducting any Airtel Money transaction.

“Airtel offers affordable, secure, and convenient mobile financial services that can be conducted across borders,” Aritho concluded. “Through this campaign, we aim to enhance digital financial services by motivating our customers to embrace cashless transactions. We want to provide them with a superior experience for utility payments, school fees payments, and cross-border money transfers.”
