Preliminary results indicate that Nakwede is leading with 35,212 votes followed by her National Resistance Movement challenger Andrew Muwonge with 20,661 votes. Independent candidates Majid Nyanzi has 1,499, Jamir Kamoga 513, Boniface Bandikubi 468 and Anthony Waddimba for DP scoring 519.
The National Unity Platform Candidate in the Kayunga District By-election Harriet Nakwede has protested the delayed declaration of results by the Electoral Commission.
The commission started tallying the results at around 8 pm on Thursday, an exercise that continued until 5 a.m. on Friday. However, the different political camps are becoming impatient and anxious, saying that the declaration has been delayed.
Meanwhile, preliminary results indicate that Nakwede is leading with 35,212 votes followed by her National Resistance Movement challenger Andrew Muwonge with 20,661 votes. Independent candidates Majid Nyanzi has 1,499, Jamir Kamoga 513, Boniface Bandikubi 468 and Anthony Waddimba for DP scoring 519.
Nakwede tried making inquiries from the electoral desk but instead, the Returning Officer Jenipher Kyobutungi told her to relax and allow them more time to sort out some technical issues and later declare the winner from the polls held on Thursday. But Nakwede says that the delay is a ploy to rob her of victory.
Last night, Nakwede’s tally agent John Mary Ssebuufu was carried out of the centre by the Counter-Terrorism Police personnel for challenging what he termed as doctored results from Kayonza sub-county.
“They can play whichever game they may want but desist from alternating figures. People of Kayunga have already spoken and the entire country has seen it.” Nakwede says.
