East African heads of state have approved the process of admitting the Democratic Republic of Congo into the East African Community.
The revelations were made by Ugandan president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in a tweet after the closed door session.
“I joined my East African brothers in a virtual Heads of State and Government Extraordinary EAC Summit today. During the summit, we approved the process of admitting the Democratic Republic of Congo into the EAC.”
Museveni said
He added
“DRC is part of the region. It’s colonialism that brought problems. Now that Africa got its freedom, we should get out of the distortion. The people we are integrating are part of us. I warmly welcome them.”
This meeting was the 18th Extra ordinary summit of EAC heads of state attended by Presidents;
Museveni of Uganda, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.
Burundi and South Sudan were represented by Ministers
