URN. Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic included three more players in the Uganda cranes squad for the upcoming trip to Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
The Uganda Cranes are set to play international friendly matches against two teams going for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Mauritania and Gabon.
Sredojevic’s team will face Gabon on 30th December 2021, while the second game against Mauritania takes place on January 1st, 2022.
A week ago the head coach summoned a squad of 21 players which was composed of majorly local-based players. Today the coach has added three more players; Shafik Kagimu (URA FC), George Kasonko (Bidco FC) and midfielder Chris Akena who plays in the UAE.
The coach believes the trio will add healthy competition to the squad ahead of the task as his team prepares for international competitions next year.
“In line with FUFA’s strategic targets of the Uganda Cranes, we are continuing with preparations for CHAN 2022 Algeria, AFCON 2023 Ivory Coast and the Olympic Games 2024. The team has a balance of maturity and experience with some youthful players from the U-17 team like Travis Mutyaba and Ibrahim Juma as well,” added Sredojevic.
Only two South African based professional players Isma Watenga and Moses Waiswa are part of the squad.
