The Management of Hima Cement Factory in Hima Town Council, Kasese District has regretted the fire that broke out at the premises that killed 3 people and injured 8 others.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hima Cement Factory Jean Michel Pons, the fire broke out at around midday and 3 workers died in the inferno while the injured were rushed to Kilembe Hospital.
In the statement issued today evening, Jean Michel said that the management was doing whatever possible to ensure that the lives of the injured are saved.
He also said that the fire was put out by team from Uganda Police Fire Brigade and UPDF that arrived at the scene and also started investigations to establish the real cause of the fire breakout.
The Chief Executive Officer however revealed that what they know so far, a team was doing installation works at the Light Diesel Tank when the incident happened.
He said that the team was now working with authorities to further investigate the incident and to ascertain the cause of events and shall share more information in the due course.
Mr Jean Michel Pons also announced that operations at the Hima have been stopped to take stock of the incident and to ensure that the fire is fully contained and assured that the health and safety of their employees and all other stakeholders remains number one priority.
