Police have confirmed the death of two unidentified men battered during last night’s Valentine concert held at Summer Terrace Gardens located at Wantoni in Mukono Municipality.

The two were battered by revelers for allegedly stealing a handbag and telephones from a pregnant woman who attended the concert organized to have several artistes headed by Mansour Ssemanda aka King Saha and Sophie Nantongo.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire says the concert came to a standstill at around 3am when mob surrounded off the two men and battered them severely, by the time police reached the scene one had died and another one died this morning at Mukono General Hospital where he was taken for treatment.

Oweyesigyire says that the body of the one who died on the spot was taken to Kawolo hospital last night. He condemns such acts and so advises organizers of such big concerts to always intensify security to avoid similar fracases.

Salim Kayiwa, a resident who attended the concert says they slapped the woman and she almost fainted before they snatched her belongings. According to him it is not the first time cases of insecurity happening in concerts organized at the place.

Wantoni LCI Chairperson Moses Nyombi, says incidents of insecurity in his area are rampant. He says he always ensures he notifies the police whenever there are big concerts organized to intensify security, but they have not been been adequately responsive.
