There was a fire outbreak in the ceiling of Lumumba hall at Kabalega secondary school in Masindi district on Tuesday night throwing both the students and teachers in panic.
One of the students told URN on condition of anonymity that they were attending evening preps when the fire broke out around 7 pm.
“We saw a huge plume of smoke emerging from Lumumba hall while we were in evening preps. We got out immediately and used the fire extinguisher to put out the fire,” said the student.
The headteacher, Andrew Tumwesige suspects that the fire could have started from a short circuit.
According to Tumwesige, they neither registered any causality nor lost property to the outbreak since they contained the fire early enough.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that the fire had already been contained by the time the police fire and rescue team arrived at the school.
He says that they are investigating the possible causes of the fire.
The incident comes barely two weeks after a student of Kabalega Secondary school in Masindi Municipality was found dead in the dormitory.
Edmond Turyasiima, 21, a senior six student was found dead inside the dormitory around 10 am on February 05, 2022.
The deceased hailed from Kinyamurara village in Bwijanga sub-county in Masindi district.
