Fort portal police have shot a man for attempting to steal a tyre from a vehicle parked in the police yard. Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Region police spokesperson told URN that the suspect raided the station around 8 pm on Wednesday night and tried to steal a tyre from vehicle Registration number UAW 073P.
He explains that the officers at the quarter guard saw the suspect and attempted to stop him but he tried to flee with the tyre. Twesige says that it is at this point that the officer opened fire and shot the suspect’s leg.
He says that one of the officers on duty ASP Jaffer Anguyo from the Field Force Unit recorded a statement about the incident. The suspect was referred to Fort Portal Regional Referral hospital for treatment as investigations are ongoing. Twesige says that they also recovered exhibits including a metallic rod and the stolen car tyre.
