Olemukan, 48, Bukedea LCV Chairperson and five others were two weeks ago charged with the murder of Francis Opolot, a resident of Akunyuko Village in Kachumbala Sub County. The other suspects are Paul Francis Angura, 44, John Peter Ekuma, 62, James Peter Olupot, 49, Justine Ekuma, 26, and Samuel Opolot, 39, all residents in Kachumbala Sub County.
Olemukan was expected to reappear for the mention of his case on Thursday but was not brought to court.
According to the Bukedea Grade One Magistrate, Juliana Kimono, the file was picked from Bukedea on the orders of Soroti Resident Judge, Justice Henry Peter Adonyo.
“That file was called by the resident judge in Soroti for the bail application before the judge so I didn’t have anywhere to record in today’s court session. But tentatively, the file will return on March 10, 2022, for another mention”, she said.
But the Bukedea RDC, Geoffrey Okiswa said Olemukan’s file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution- DPP in Kampala.
East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, Oscar Gregg Ageca said that he is not aware of the developments in the matter.
“As the Police, we did our part. The matter is now in the hands of the prisons, the judiciary, and the DPP. But I have not yet received information about the DPP in Kampala taking over the file”, he said on the phone.
After the killing of Opolot, the Police in Bukedea arrested seven relatives in relation to the death. Two of the suspects; Joseph Okwalinga alias Golola and Michael Ojakol, who is Opolot’s younger brother, died in two separate incidents when they were under detention in police cells.
According to the family members of the deceased brother, there were land issues that made the brothers lock horns. Tadeo Odongo, the clan chief of Ikomolo- Akile in charge Kachumbala County told our reporter that much as the clan tried to settle the matter, the brothers continued feuding with each other.
In the amended charge sheet implicating Olemukan, the group with others still at large, on the 25th day of December 2021 at Akunyuko Village in Bukedea District, with malice aforethought, unlawfully killed Opolot Francis.
