The National Unity Platform (NUP) has thrown its weight behind Alliance for National Transformation’s (ANT) Alice Alaso ahead of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate calling all forces of change to come out and support  in the upcoming Serere county by election.

Mr Joel Ssenyonyi NUP spokesperson also said that they have always advocated for working together as the opposition to oust the sitting government of the National Resistance Movement (NRM)for the betterment of the country.
“We have for a very long time been talking about forces of change coming together in what we have severally called United Forces of change,” Mr Ssenyonyi said.
He also  added that “Those of us who think Uganda deserves better there must be change from the way things operate and in leadership generally so we keep making every effort to come together.”
This is not the first time National Unity Platform opts for backing other opposition party candidates  during an election.
During the 2021 general elections NUP backed the Bugiri municipality candidate Asuman Basalirwa then who also doubles as the party president of Justice Forum JEEMA.
In 2022,NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi together with other party leaders and members joined Dr Kiiza Besigye (FDC) in conversing votes for the FDC’s Moses Attan on the last day of campaigns. Kyagulanyi then said that the opposition must form a United front if they want to defeat President Museveni.
Mr Ssenyonyi asserted that in bid for a bigger cause and goal the National Unity Platform, will be going to Serere in support to the Alice Alaso who’s the flag bearer of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
“So we are going to Serere as the National Unity Platform to support Alaso who’s the flag bearer of ANT. It is what leadership calls for that sometimes you lay a little bit for a bigger cause,” Mr Ssenyonyi said .
Ms Jolly Mugisha NUP Vice President Western region said  “I want to call upon all of you people power out there ,FDC I know you will try to get a candidate of your own but we call upon you to join us on the United Forces of change so that we can remove a dictator.”
Who is Alice Alaso?
According to information available on internet, Alice Alaso Asianut born 21 January 1969 is a Ugandan teacher and politician who was the Woman Representative for Serere District in Uganda’s eighth, ninth and tenth parliaments. She was politically affiliated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and was the party’s first Secretary General for ten years. She’s now a member of Alliance for National Transformation

As a teacher, Alaso taught at Teso College Aloet between 1993 and 1997. During this time, she also taught part-time at Saint Mary’s Madera.

After leaving Teso College in 1997, she became a District Gender Officer on the Post-Conflict Recovery Program mainly responsible for Kaberamaido District.

In 2018, Alaso left the Forum for Democratic Change where she had been serving as the Secretary General. Other sources claim that she was fired from the party and the position.

She joined the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and as of March 2022, she was listed as the party’s Acting National Coordinator. Alaso has been married to Johnson Ebaju since 2007.
