Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has said that the ailing Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya who is currently admitted and receiving treatment in the Netherlands didn’t inform the house and the party before he travelled.
Mpuuga has disregarded the rumour that the National Unity Platform as a party has not rendered any support to the legislator. He says that Ssegigirinyi neither informed the LOP’s office nor the party leadership about his ailing condition and travel process.
“It was established that he travelled without any notification to the LOP’s office and the NUP party headquarters. I accordingly communicated to the party including the president Hon.Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu” Mpuuga wrote in a press statement.
He also added that “The office has since been following this matter to ensure that our colleague is supported through the proper parliamentary procedures well known to him.”
Ssegirinya was arrested with Mr Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West in 2021 on accusations of being part of the machete-wielding gangs in Masaka city which claimed the lives of Ugandans. His health started deteriorating when he was still incarcerated.
