Earlier on, the Ndiga clan leader had conveyed a meeting with the clan members in Buikwe district, accompanied by his wife who narrowly survived the incident having travelled next to her husband.
According to the deputy police spokes person Kampala Metropolitan Luke Oweyesigire the tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:00pm in Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja Parish, Lubaga Division.
“The incident involved Mr. Daniel Bbosa, the esteemed head of Ndiga clan and director of Transa Electrical. Mr. Bbosa was fatally shot by yet-to-be-identified assailants as he was approaching his residence. The assailants, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire at Mr. Bbosa’s motor vehicle, bearing registration number UAH 637X, resulting in his immediate demise,” Oweyesigire confirmed.
According to the Annual Crime Report 2023, a total of 300 cases of murder by shooting were reported compared to the 279in the previous year giving an increase of 7.5% with 44 cases reported from the Kampala Metropolitan South and East.
Murder as a result of mob justice cases reported to police also shot to a 9% a with total of 1,039 cases reported as compared to a 953 in 2022.
Mr Owoyesigire said that a vigilant local resident bravely intervened, knocking down the assailants’ motorcycle and alerting the community. Swiftly, members of the community mobilized, leading to a confrontation with the assailants. Mob justice ensued, resulting in the death of one assailant at the scene, while the other remains in critical condition.The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unknown, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
He noted however, they recovered the firearm allegedly used in the murder incident, along with the motorcycle registration number UEX 754E, utilized by the assailants during the attack and that the findings were to be instrumental in their ongoing investigation.
In his last statements, Eng Bbosa urged his clan members to embrace acquiring quality education for their children as it was the only way to achieve a sustainable country but also keep a kin eye on the culture, region and traditions.
