Lapaire Uganda, an eye care center has opened three new branches around Kampala with a view of extending services to its clients whom they say have not benefited from the different calls from stakeholders in the country to get any kind of response.
During their press conference at one of their branches in Kanyanya, Wakiso District, Lapaire officials indicated that by 2050, more than 50% of the world will be suffering from different eye problems, especially shortsightedness.
“In Africa, almost half a billion people need glasses but only one percent of those have access to glasses which is why Lapaire Uganda has opened up branches all over Africa. In Uganda there has been slow response to the concerns despite the awareness created by different stakeholders,” Ms Esther Nafula, the operations manager Lapaire Uganda said.
According to the Ministry of Health, over 1.2 million people are visually impaired with short-sightedness while 250,000 others are totally blind. Eyecare in Uganda has been observed to be quite expensive and inaccessible. For this reason, some people miss out on a service that could very much change their lives. As a result, some people miss out on a service that could very much change their lives.
There are several reasons for this: a lack of public awareness of vision problems, a difficult and expensive access to ophthalmologists & other eye specialists, and a high price for a frame with corrected lenses and the non-coverage of optical care by insurance companies.
Ms Roseline Kilonzo said that in light of this, Lapaire, the Panafrican Optician, is delighted to extend an invitation to you for the opening of three new optical stores in Wandegeya, Gayaza Road, and Kyaliwajjala. I
“We have worked on more than 20, 000 patients since 2019 when we opened shop and we continue to get new people coming in all the time,” Ms Kilonzo said.
