Ms Shamim Malende, Kampala Woman representative in parliament has launched providing free mama kits to expectant mothers around Kampala.
With over 200 pregnant women from areas of Kawempe and surrounding areas Malende has promised to continue with this initiative since the government has failed on every attempt to stand with struggling women and girls of this nation.
“We have launched this program to ensure that our expectant mothers have all the necessities to go through the delivery process safely especially those going through financial challenges”, Ms Malende said.
Interacting with Malende, women raised concerns of being mishandled by social workers in government hospitals when they fail raise certain amounts of money which puts the lives of both mother and child at risk.
“Mothers loose their lives in the quest of looking for money that is required by health workers before attending to them,” Ms Magarita Nakijjoba said representing other women.
Some women have also complained about the issue of people with disabilities not having access to maternal health yet some don’t have husbands or father figures because they get raped and other neglected their responsibilities.
Honourable Malende has promised mothers to take all the complaints that have been raised on the floor of parliament.
