URN.The village defense secretary Ayub Buyinza says that while conducting a search at the Kiwelele’s home, they recovered stolen mattresses, furniture, utensils and clothing, which angered residents to the point of lynching them.
Two brothers were on Wednesday killed during a mob justice incident in Mbilizi village, in Baitambogwe sub county, in Mayuge district.
The deceased are 24 year old, Bakali Kiwelele and Hassan Kiwelele aged 28 years.
Ayub Buyinza, the village defense secretary says that unidentified individuals stormed 15 homes on Tuesday morning and robbed different household items ranging from clothing, furniture, among others, while occupants had gone to their farms.
Buyinza says that they held a village meeting, where residents unanimously resolved that a comprehensive search should be conducted in each of the homes within their area, as part of the efforts to recover stolen items.
Buyinza adds that while conducting a search at the Kiwelele’s home, they recovered stolen mattresses, furniture, utensils and clothing, which angered residents to the point of lynching them.
Rahim Musana, a resident within the area says that the deceased used a numberless sugarcane truck to transport some of stolen items to their home.
He adds that they hid part of the stolen property in the neighboring sugarcane plantation and a pit latrine respectively.
Jamada Waiswa, the Lugolole parish councilor says that cases of theft have increased within their area and police ought to increase on the security deployment so as to curb the vice.
Meanwhile, Busoga East’s police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula condemns the mob action, adding that the deceased have been taken to Mayuge health center IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
