Work on the 5.6km Mabale – Wakamala road and 5.5km Natoolo – Sakusaku road in Bududa district has stalled following the disappearance of the contractor from the site.
In 2019, the Ministry of Works and Transport contracted Magombe Star Engineering Company to undertake the construction of both roads at Shillings 1.1billion.
The company was expected to complete the road works in 2 years. However, the contractor vanished from the site in 2020 under unclear circumstances.
Bududa LC V Chairperson, Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, says this prompted them to seek an explanation from the Works Ministry as to why the contractor abandoned the road sites.
He says that they expect the contractor to appear this to explain why the road works have stalled.
Issa Bukoma, the Bududa district Engineer also confirmed their planned meeting with the contractor to explain what might have gone wrong with the project.
The contractor has not yet comment as he could not pick nor return our calls.
