First-year students at Makerere University are concerned about the delayed release of admission letters ahead of their reporting next week.
The students who are supposed to report on January 29, 2022, for orientation have made back and forth movements to the campus hoping to receive their admission letters despite the since admission list was released in December.
A notice from the Academic Registrar’s office issued on Monday indicated that the admission letters for government-sponsored students would be ready on Wednesday.
However, when Uganda Radio Network visited the Academic Registrar’s notice board, a notice indicated that they were not ready until further communication.
“Admission letters are not ready, wait you will be notified online,” the notice read.
This enraged parents who were hoping to receive the admission letters. Salima was disappointed to have traveled all the way from Mbale with her daughter only to be told to go back and wait until Wednesday.
“We arrived and found a notice saying the letters were not ready when I tried to inquire in one of the offices, a lady attended to me and she told me to wait, obviously I was disappointed looking at the time and transport I had invested but there was nothing to do about it”
Judith Ariel, a parent to a student who was admitted for Bachelor of Law was among the parents who received information that the admission letters were not ready.
Teddy Akello who was admitted to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences explained that she has been to the university to pick her admission letter five times in the past three weeks.
Elijah Jiibo says that the university should set a definite date when the admission letters will be released. He says that he is tired of spending money on transport from Sseguku to Makerere every day.
Priscilla Nanyunji, a successful applicant admitted to the College of Engineering Design Art and Technology said that she went to the college expectant after being assured that the letters would be out this week.
After the release of admission lists at Makerere University, the admitted students are supposed to receive provisional admission letters as confirmation. The letter contains information about the tuition they are required to pay and the registration number to facilitate the payment process.
