Unknown assailants have killed a news vendor before taking his motorcycle along Salama Road, a Kampala city suburb last night.
The deceased has been identified as Ayiman Rashid, a 22-year-old newspaper vendor along Jinja-road in Kampala, who was killed by assailants who wanted his new motorcycle Registration number UFJ120J.
According to Iddi Mudashiru, a friend of the deceased, said two men who seemed to be known to the deceased, approached him at 10:00 pm and requested a ride to a certain club in Kampala, but he never returned home.
“He told me that those were his friends and he was returning home shortly, so they left home in Kibuli, but he did not return,” Mudashiru said. “I was going to work this morning, only to receive a phone call from a friend of mine saying that Rashid was killed, and his motorcycle was taken.”
Rashid was found by the night police patrol along Salama road at around 11:00 pm unconscious, but he was pronounced dead after reaching Mulago hospital.
Rashid Toko, a brother to the deceased, says Ayiman who has been vending news papers along Jinja-Road for the last 7-years, was in plans to quit vending and join boda-boda industry, but his dream has been cut short.
“He had bought a motorcycle to join boda-boda riding since KCCA has been chasing them off the street every day,” Rashid said. ”Unfortunately, the bad guys whom we suspect were friendly to him and knew about that motorcycle have ended his life in such a manner.”
Rashid is calling upon the Police to act quickly in hunting for the assailants who took his brother’s life.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, said investigations and the hunt for the assailants are on.
On Monday Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, warned boda-boda riders to be vigilant and cautious about criminals who are waiting to inflate their industry as they resume night work.
Many boda-boda robberies and murders were registered in the 2019 and 2020. Subsequently, most of the gangs were busted by the police Flying Squad who also arrested gang leaders such as Tamale Aloysius alias Sekyewa Patrick, alias young Mulo who had then been involved in the numerous murders of boda boda riders in Kampala and Wakiso districts.
