The deceased has been identified as Charles Kalanzi aged 29 years a resident of Kawanda town in Wakiso district. He was found dead on Tuesday morning at Kikadde zone in Kakooge town council in Nakasongola district and his truck registration number UBH 262B missing.
Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that unknown robbers hired Kalanzi to transport sawdust but on reaching Kikadde zone, they turned against him and slit his throat using a knife before they disappeared with his vehicle.
Ssemwogerere adds that the area LCI Chairperson John Kyeyune notified the Local police station upon seeing the dead body lying in the cold blood along the road.
Ssemwogerere says that the body has been transferred to Nakasongola health center IV for postmortem and the hunt for the robbers is ongoing.
“We have launched a manhunt for the suspects and also alerted the CCTV command center to track the whereabouts of the vehicle,” Ssemwogerere said.
This is the second driver to be killed in Greater Luwero within two weeks.
On January 27, 2022, David Ntanzi, a resident of Mabbale zone and a driver of tipper truck registration number UAT 840C was found killed.
He was hired from the truck stage located at the entrance of Luwero town council playground to transport firewood but robbers killed him and buried his body at Kibanvu village in Luwero sub-county.
Police arrested three suspects Frank Mbabali , Robert Kasolo, and Lawrence Mubiru after they were found driving his stolen truck in Matugga town.
In April last year, a special hire driver identified as James Ahimbisibwe was also found killed and buried at Bwaziiba village in Luwero sub-county.
It was reported the robbers hired Ahimbisibwe at Buremba stage in Mbarara city to drive them to an unknown destination but never returned, prompting his family and friends to report the matter to Mbarara Police Station.
The killers were arrested by police while selling the new car for only four million shillings.
Police later found out the same suspects had also murdered Juliet Namusoke alias Nabutono in Kikyusa, Luwero District on 19th august 2020 and disappeared.
