On 22nd March 2022, the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija passed a letter informing officials about a sitting of Parliament that will be held on Friday, 25th March 2022 at 10:00am at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to conduct the election of the Speaker who will replace the Late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.
He states in the letter,
“As you are aware, H.E the president of the Republic of Uganda issued an official statement announcing the death of the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’okori Oulanyah, the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, which occurred in Seattle in the USA on Sunday, 20 March 2022. Consequently, the office of the Speaker is vacant.
Therefore, in accordance with the Article 82(4) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Rule 5(4) of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, you are invited to attend a Sitting of Parliament on Friday, 25 March 2022 at 10:00am at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The agenda of the Sitting will be to conduct the election of the Speaker of Parliament.”
In his letter, he further says,
“ In keeping with the COVID-19 protocols, you are advised to take tests in Conference Hall “A” at Parliamentary Building on Wednesday, 23 March 2022 starting at 9:00am.”
