The Government Chief Whip and also Member of Parliament for Ruhinda North County in Mitooma District, Thomas Tayebwa has backed out of the ongoing Speakership race.
He posted on his official twitter account saying;
“ I wish to thank you Honorable colleagues for the calls you have made to me to contest for the position of Speaker of Parliament after the unfortunate passing of our senior Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This shows you appreciate the work we are doing and it energies us to do more.”
He continued saying;
“However, I want to inform you that I WILL NOT BE EXPRESSING INTEREST FOR THE POSITION OF SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT. I call on Honorable colleagues members of Parliament and the nation to remain united as we mourn our fallen hero.”
Election and swearing in of the New Speaker of Parliament of Uganda will be conducted on Tuesday 29th March 2022
