Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, and Allan Ssewanyana, the member of Parliament representing Makindye Division West while appearing in Masaka Court via Zoom ordered their lawyers to prepare their academic papers to participate in the upcoming parliament speakership race.
Allan Ssewanyana wants to stand for Speaker of the house while his colleague Segirinya says he wants to stand for Deputy speaker of parliament.
It remains to be seen if the Ugandan prisons service will bring the legislators to parliament on Friday to take part in this election.
The two MPs Segirinya and Ssewanyana were charged with murder and remanded to Kitalya prison over the 2021 Masaka machete Killings.
They were later granted bail but were separately rearrested moments after release on September 23 and September 27 2021. The duo has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
