The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly – EALA, Martin Karoli Ngoga has said that the death of the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, is a blow to the East African bloc.
Addressing journalists at Parliament on Monday, Ngoga said that the Late Oulanyah died at a very resourceful age before the country and the East African bloc could benefit from his vision and leadership experience.
Ngoga lauded the Parliament of Uganda and the government for showing the goodwill they exhibited to save Oulanyah’s life by evacuating him to the best healthcare facilities overseas. He also congratulated Among and Tayebwa upon being elected to their respective positions.
Ngoga, who was accompanied by George Odongo, Mary Mugenyi, James Kakooza, and Rose Akullu Akol, Uganda’s representatives to the EALA applauded the country for exhibiting unique and exemplary ties with the Assembly.
Among lauded Ngoga for showing the spirit of humanity to condole with the people of Uganda upon the great loss of the former Speaker of Parliament.
Oulanyah died on Sunday, March 20 in Seattle, United States of America.
The deceased was the Omoro County Member of Parliament, and also the National Vice Chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM Party. He was also the first serving speaker to die while in office.
