A group of villagers in Lwengo district has lynched a 46-year-old man for hacking his wife to death.
The deceased couple have been identified as Deogratius Kadugala and McClean Genyana, both residents of the same village.
It is reported that the couple had several misunderstandings that forced Genyana to leave Kadugala and went to her parents’ home in Lwentale C where she stayed for over a month.
Residents say that Kadugala’s appeals for Genyana to return home were turned down which propelled his anger and reportedly vowed to kill her. The enraged man went to Lwentale and hacked Genyana several times on the head and neck. She was reportedly carrying their one-month-old baby on the back at the time of the attack.
It is said that the locals found the baby also covered in blood. A mob pursued Kadugala up to his home in Lwemiyaga where they pulled him out of his house, and lynched him.
Robert Kambugu, the Lwengo Deputy Resident District Commissioner says they are hunting for the people who were part of the mob that lynched Kadugala. He further attributed the incidents to the increasing domestic violence in the district due to lack of enough family counseling services.
Police led by Pamela Kahuma, the Officer In-charge of Kyazanga Police Station later visited the two scenes and took the bodies to the mortuary at Kyazanga Health Centre IV. She says several exhibits including a blood-stained panga have been recovered to aid investigations.
