There has been a low turn up at the second covid-19 vaccination campaign at Bulange Mengo.
During the first drive that was held in November, there was an overwhelming turnout in response to the call by the Katikkiro Peter Mayiga. According to records, at least 7,500 people were vaccinated.
However, on Wednesday, by 2 pm not more than 300 people had turned up for vaccination.
The site has various types of vaccines, among them, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer. URN observed that the majority of those who turned up were getting their second jab or receiving the booster dose.
Rebecca Zawedde Lugoloobi, the Buganda Kingdom’s Principal Health Officer says that the Kingdom has enough vaccines to vaccinate more than One Million people. Zawedde says she is hopeful that more people will turn up for the vaccination in the coming days.
Bukenya Uthman, 50 says that he decided to receive a booster dose because he is at a high risk of contracting Covid.
The campaign that will end on Saturday is organized by the Buganda Kingdom through a partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority, the Ministry of Health, and the Red Cross.
Statistics by KCCA, show that within Kampala 400,000 people have received one covid jab.
In January, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said that more than 400,000 vaccine doses were destroyed after they expired before being used.
According to statistics by the Ministry of Health, Uganda has administered at least 19 million doses of COVID vaccines so far by April 11, 2022.
