NRM leaders and MPs are traversing the district meeting grass root party leaders to drum support for the party flag bearer, Gideon Thembo Mujungu.
Last month, the Court of Appeal nullified the victory of Mujungu as the Busongora South Member of Parliament following an appeal lodged by his rival, Mbaju Kathika.
The Director of Communications at the NRM Secretariat, Emmanuel Dombo said the party is determined to retain victory in Busongora by harmonizing all internal differences. He added that the party’s position is to allow Mujungu as a flag bearer without being challenged by party members.
The former Minister of Defense, Crispus Kiyonga said they are discussing with NRM party aspirants so that they can all support and endorse the party candidate. He added that they target to use the campaign to further popularize government programs.
Doreen Mbambu, a member of the NRM party asked the aspirants to address issues affecting the people, citing land conflicts in the constituency.
Meanwhile Katika, the NUP flag bearer wants the Kasese District Returning Officer Ismael Atwijukire transferred for allegedly failing to account for the new polling stations that have been established in the constituency.
But the Kasese Assistant Returning Officer Charles Wafula says that they have asked Kathika to provide specific details of his complaints to the Electoral Commission.
