More than 1,900 primary seven candidates in Kakumiro have failed the District Mock Assessment Examinations ahead of the national Primary Leaving Examinations scheduled for November this year.
Kiziito Nsamba, the Chairperson Kakumiro district Academic board while releasing the results at Uganda Martyrs Secondary school today, says out of the 4,334 registered candidates, only 91 passed in division one,616 in Division two,501 in division three,983 in division four while 1,973 completely failed the examinations.
According to Nsamba,172 candidates who had registered for the mock examinations never showed up.
Mary Kyofuna, the Kakumiro district inspector of schools attributes the poor performance to the long period of lockdown and the industrial action by government teachers which affected learning activities. She has however blamed some parents for keeping their children home even after teachers ended their industrial action.
Lawrence Baraza, Kakumiro district secretary for education has called upon schools and learners to double their efforts and get prepared enough for the UNEB exams.
According to the released mock exam results, Mathematics was the best done subject followed by social studies and English while Science was the worst done subject.
Some of the UPE schools who performed well in the mock examinations are Kisiita primary school, Kamuli parents and Kakumiro boys’ primary school, while the best private schools are BAKEF primary school, Blessed Trinity Nalweyo and St Thereza Igayaza primary.
The P.7 candidates sat the mock examinations at the end of July and the marking of the examinations was done centrally at Uganda Martyrs Secondary School.
The mock examinations were set by Kakumiro District Academic Board, vetted by Uganda National Examinations Board, and certified examiners selected before they were administered to the candidates.
