The Kampala Metropolitan North regional Police Commander, Gerald Twishime, has called upon Police officers who have not been promoted to stop speaking negatively about their colleagues who were last week elevated in ranks.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni last week promoted 773 police officers after six years without carrying out promotions.
But Twishime said since the promotions, some Police officers in his region are speaking negatively about their colleagues. He advised the unhappy Police officers who were not promoted to be patient before they are also promoted.
Citing his own example of 2012 when his colleagues were promoted to Superintendent of Police except him and two others, Twishime said all those who have not been promoted need to be patient and continue being committed to their duties.
“When you are promoted, it means they are recognizing you for the work, but at the same time more responsibilities ahead. Since promotions were announced, some of our colleagues have been making negative comments and this means they are unhappy. My advice to you is to be patient, your time will come,” says Twishime.
Because he remained patient, Twishime who is now Assistant Commissioner of Police –ACP, said he got promoted and is highly ranked than some of the colleagues who had been promoted before him. Twishime said when he got angry for not being promoted in 2021, he sought counsel from his mother who in turn encouraged him to remain focused on work.
Twishime was speaking at the promotion of 25 police officers from the rank of Inspector of Police –IP to Assistant Superintendent of Police –ASP and from ASP to Superintendent of Police –SP.
The Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, on Wednesday directed RPCs to quickly organize promotion ceremonies of Police officers who were promoted by Museveni but could not attend the ceremony in Naguru.
ACP Ben Mubangizi who replaced KMP Police commander, Steven Tanui, urged the newly promoted officers not to over exercise their powers during duty. He asked them to remain committed and work hard.
