The election period in Kenya is peaking with anxiety among Kenyans as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya prepares to make its announcement of the final results this afternoon.
The IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati is expected to announce the winner of the August 9th presidential election at 3 pm at the Bomas of Kenya, the national tally centre.
Presidential candidates; David Waihiga Mwaure, and George Wajakoyah were already at the Bomas by 1.00 pm this afternoon. Mwaure has conceded defeat and pledged support to William Ruto whom he expects to take the day, while Wajakoyah expects to win if it is “a free, fair and fair election.”
In the spirit of national unity, I urge all Kenyans to exercise restraint, tolerance and calmness. Conceding defeat is not a show of weakness or a concession,” Mwaure pleaded.
The two leading candidates, Ruto and Raila Odinga were still at their homes with their motorcades ready to be led by police escort motorbikes.
“We have been following the ongoing exercise with our teams in Bomas, and we indicate that the figures are in favour of Dr William Samoei Ruto.
By 2,00 pm, according to the displayed results from 253 counties out of 291, Ruto was leading with 6,406,388 votes or 51.18 per cent, against Odinga’s 6,025,940 votes (48.14 per cent).
