Sheikh Kassim Mugga, the head of Kaama Mosque located at Nyweddemalwa in Mukono district is under the spotlight for selling land housing the old mosque and the house which accommodates the caretaker of the place.
The matter came to the limelight after the demolition of the Mosque and the caretaker’s house, allegedly with an intention of establishing individual developments on the land. Muslims in the area are now accusing Mugga of selling at least three of the five acres of land donated to the Muslim community by the Late Hajji Zaidi Mukiibi.
Kavulu Ssebyala, one of the area Faithful says that the management committee of the mosque needed to have a resolution for any development to take place on the said land. However, he adds that the demolition, without the consent of the management committee, is provocative.
Ssebyala is dismayed that once the land is sold, the Muslim community would not only lose ownership of it, but they are likely to lose an opportunity to have developments intended to nurture the Islamic faith.
Much as Sheikh Mugga denies involvement in the selling of the said land, he acknowledges the ongoing developments. However, he is still hesitant to reveal the persons behind them and what they intend to establish.
In the meantime, Sheikh Abdul Kakande, the head of the land management and monitoring committee at the Office of the District Khadhi has directed that the developments be halted until thoroughly investigations are done. He says that all activities must be authorized by the mosque management and should be in line with Islamic norms.
Meanwhile, the Nyweddemalwa LCI Chairperson, Jimmy Ssonko says is unaware of selling off the said land revealing that he thought the developments were being conducted by the mosque management.
