Parishioners and the management of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish Kimanya in Masaka city are hesitant to record a complaint against Muhammad Nsubuga, the greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson for disrupting Sunday mass. Nsubuga caused a stampede when he entered the church and started making unwanted noise allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Reverend Fr. Simon Peter Zikusooka, the Kimanya Parish priest who led the mass when the incident occurred, says that he was stunned by the weird conduct of the strange worshiper who went and slept on the Church floor while the rest of the congregation was seated on desks. He says that they got concerned about Nsubuga’s conduct and notified the security of the church that forced him out before calling in the police that drove him away.
Despite the commotion resulting from the incident, neither Fr. Zikusooka nor the guards have recorded a statement with the police on the incident. According to Fr. Zikusooka, they didn’t ascertain the state the officer was in. He also notes that the officer didnt cause any harm that would require them to file a complaint against him with the police.
Morris Mungoma, one of the private guards who were on duty at the church when the incident occurred, says that the man who he eventually learnt is a senior police officer, came driving and parked in front of the Church and entered with other congregants. He says that they were also surprised by Nsubuga’s unbecoming conduct. He says that they treated him like any other unusual character and stopped him from causing disruptions at the Church.
Paul Nkore, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Commander has remained tightlipped about the incident and the consequences Nsubuga is likely to face. However, URN has since established that Nsubuga is seeking a remedy from a born-again Pastor in Wakiso district. Nsubuga told URN that he was possessed by evil spirits during the incident, adding that his family has since taken him away for proper management.
