A teenager is in police custody in Luwero district accused of murdering his three-year-old cousin. The suspect is accused of killing Innocent Adriko, the son of Emily Avako, a single mother and resident of Kanyogogga village in Luwero sub-county.
Patrick Kakande, the LC 1 Chairperson of Kanyogogga village explains that a resident only identified as Meridah found the minor’s lifeless body hanging on a coffee plant in her plantation at around 6:30 pm when she went to check on the plants after following a heavy downpour. Kakande says that the deceased’s body was tied with a banana fiber, which prompted her to alert Luwero Central Police Station.
Kakande says that the deceased’s mother was away in Kiryandongo district when he met his death. The minor was in the custody of three other children. According to Kakande, residents believe that the suspect had knowledge about the death of the minor because she had threatened in the past to strangle him.
Patrick Lule, the Acting Savannah region Police Spokesperson, says that police retrieved the body from the coffee plant and transferred it to the mortuary at Luwero hospital for postmortem. Lule says that Police arrested the 15-year-old suspect to explain how her cousin met his death and his body was hanged on a coffee plant.
Police have opened murder inquiries vide CRB file no.668/2022 at Luwero Central Police Station. According to the Police crime report for 2021, Luwero district was ranked third across the country with the highest cases of homicide after registering 77 cases. The district also ranked third with the highest cases of child torture and abuse with 35 cases.
