The Member of Parliament Bukoto South, Dr. Twaha Kagabo has apologized to the Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among for the act of returning Shs40m saying it was potentially tainting the image of the house.
During the Tuesday Plenary sitting, Kagabo told legislators that after deep thought and reflection, he decided to apologize to the House and drop allegations of receiving the money from the home of the speaker.
“I was pressured into bringing this money. My party leaders and voters made me feel like I should do this and I am now sorry,” Kagabo said.
Last month Kagaboade news when he carried Shs 40m to the office of the leader of opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga claimed that he had been bribed by Among and that the money was given to him at the speaker’s residence in Nakasero.
He further said he was following the directive of Robert Kyagulanyi, the National Unity Party (NUP) president who had told his party MPs who had received the money to return it.
However, Kagabo’s apology ceases to be saving him from appearing before the committee on Rules, Discipline and Privileges, under the chairperson of the probe Abdu Katuntu.
This money is part of the Shs77bn that was reported in different media houses indicating that each MP was given Shs40m to pass the supplementary.
Upon receipt, Kagabo and two other NUP Mps confessed to having received the money and promised to return it to parliament.
In the Tuesday sitting, the speaker told Kagabo to remain answerable to the committee led by Hon. Abdu Katuntu.
“We want to see this case finished by the committee even when you have apologised,” the speaker said.
