The double 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medalist Jacob Kiplimo on Sunday won the Great North Run half marathon that ended in Newcastle, England.
Kiplimo, the star Ugandan athlete posted a time of 59:32 to win the half marathon. Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega, Olympic champion came second posting in a time of 1:00:39, while another Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele finished third with a time of 1:01:01.
“I enjoyed the race, it was nice,” said Kiplimo.
“I came here to win it, I was not worried about the people, it was just about winning the race. The atmosphere was nice, the crowd was nice.” He added.
Last year’s winner, Marc Scott from Northallerton, finished sixth with a time of 1:02:28.
Besides winning two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, the Ugandan star athlete also bagged a bronze medal in the 10,000m of the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Eugene Oregon, US.
