Mercy Nyandoi, 15, student at Rubongi Army Secondary School has been electrocuted to death as she tapped a hanging electric wire in the compound of the school.
Maj. Isaac Oware, the spokesperson of Uganda Peoples Defence Forces 3rd Division said that the stormy winds of last night’s heavy downpour had loosened the wire on the falling poles.
“It is worth noting that the power line within the barracks, in some sections was brought down by heavy downpour hence posing danger to the people in the barracks” he said.
This is the sixth incident of death caused by electrocution in the last three months countrywide as police say they are investigating the major cause of hanging wires.
The residents told news24/7 that the deceased was playing with her friends when she knocked the hanging wire which was charged with electricity.
“Her friends had no way of saving her that is why she died, they also feared that they could die if they touched her,” Sam Owora, one of the witnesses said.
UMEME is yet to come up with a statement about the same incidents and by press time, the body was still being kept at Rubongi Military Hospital (RMH) for further management.
