Residents of Buzabo Village in Bufunda Division Ibanda Municipality on Thursday blocked the Buzabo Access road protesting its poor state.
The 2.5 Kilometers murram road connects two villages of Buzabo, and Bufunda 1 to the Ibanda- Mbarara Highway.
The angry residents barricaded the road with logs and tree branches to block traffic from using the road. Motorists and pupils of Ibanda Preparatory School were asked to use alternative routes to access the area.
Edgar Asiimwe the chairperson of LCI Buzabo cell, says that the road has turned into a death trap due to its appalling state. He says they have so far lost three people and several others injured due to the bad state of the road and drainage channel.
Flavia Kiiza, a trader along the road says that the heavy running water swept the culverts.
Sam Tayebwa the Deputy Headteacher at Ibanda Preparatory School wants the government to intervene. He said that Buzabo road is the only access road that can be used by parents taking their children to school.
Deus Warugaba the Deputy Mayor of Ibanda Municipal Council says the challenge arises from the town lying under hills that has a lot of running water during the rainy season causing floods that wash away most roads in town.
The Ibanda Municipal Assistant Engineer Robert Mugisha says that they lack road equipment to work on the damaged roads. He says that the Municipality has only 18 kilometers of the tarmacked road the rest of 376 kilometers need routine mechanical maintenance.
