The construction of the multi-billion Arua Hill Mini stadium and business park in Arua city will be completed by October 2023. This development comes just a few days after councilors in Arua City council expressed concerns about the delayed completion of the project.
The facility located on Plot 1-7 Pakwach road in Arua central division is being constructed under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement between Arua City Council and Development Infrastructure (DI).
In the agreement with the then municipality now Arua City, the project works began in 2019 and was expected to be complete in three years which target was not achieved.
According to Joel Aita, the Executive Director of Development Infrastructure, if it was not for the Covid-19 Pandemic interruptions, the works would have been completed by now. He says, all the work will be completed within the next thirteen months.
Aita says that the stadium will increase local revenue for the City, as 40-per cent of the revenue from the stadium will be remitted to the council.
When URN reporter visited the stadium, workers were seen condensing and fixing the columns for the pavilion of the stadia, among other ongoing civil works.
Sam Wadri Nyakua, the Mayor of Arua City is hopeful that the facility will greatly boost the local revenue base which he says is vital for service delivery in the city.
In the agreement, a copy of which URN has seen, Arua City will take over the facility from the developer after the expiry of the 49-year lease. Once completed, the facility is expected to light up the face of Arua city in addition to attracting tourists.
According to the developer, the stadium will also provide over 1,000 direct jobs upon completion.
Apart from football, the facility will be a venue for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton among other indoor games.URN
