The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has commended Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s implacible efforts in preserving the heritage of Kampala City.
“I want to thank the Lord Mayor for is continued efforts in highlighting and preserving the heritage and identity of Kampala as a historical City of Buganda and Uganda, the logo of Kampala is not the Impala which gave us the name Kampala. If it’s not the Impala let it be the Masiro. It’s the most original and authentic. But the Kampala city hall tower is not authentic, it is not original,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro also said that Kampala must be identified with its true identity and heritage, and for one who doesn’t know their history may not know the future as well.
Mayiga was speaking at the Makindye Division KCCA office where he was hosted by the Division Mayor.
Lukwago in his remarks informed the Katikkiro of the daunting task of developing and transforming Kampala into a City which works for both the affluent and indigent.
He also handed the Buganda premier the State of the City Report highlighting the structural challenges the city currently faces and the need to develop the City according to the recommended plans by experts.
In his remarks, the Makindye Division Mayor thanked the Katikkiro and Buganda Kingdom for supporting development initiatives in the city.
The event was attended by various leaders and Kingdom officials.
