Police in Busoga East, on Wednesday arrested six suspects over death of their villagemate, Jafari Atanansi aged 23 years.
It is reported that, Atanansi, a resident of Bukyaye village, in Nakalama sub county, in Iganga district, teamed up with the suspects to attend a social event in Bukyalifu trading center, in Namutumba town council, in Namutumba district on Monday evening.
The suspects are however, reported to have gotten involved in a fierce fight with Atanansi, who sustained serious injuries in the head.
They later rushed him to Iganga general hospital, where he was confirmed dead on Tuesday.
An autopsy report was conducted and the deceased was handed over to the family for a decent burial.
The deceased’s uncle, Musa Kirenda says that well-wishers notified him about his nephew’s deteriorarating health, after spotting him lying helpless on his sick bed at Nakavule hospital.
Kirenda further says that their family is relying on police for a comprehensive report, concerning the death of Atanansi, whom they suspect of succumbing to wounds during a brawl with the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says that the suspects have registered inconsistencies in the individual accounts concerning the narrative of the events, which resulted into the death of their colleague.
Nandawula says that the suspects are currently detained at Iganga central police station, awaiting further prosecution.URN
