A teenager has drowned inLotanyat dam in Kotido district. Fifteen-year-old, Lowok, and resident of Morunyang village in Kapeta sub-county met his death around 5: 00 pm Wednesday while swimming with his friends.
His peers, who noticed that their colleagues had disappeared in the water, quickly rushed to inform the community members who mounted the search. Julius Loduk explained that they moved together to the dam and started swimming but the deceased kept on advancing to the deep end until he disappeared inside the water.
Loduk says that they tried calling the deceased until they realized that he might have drowned and quickly ran back to the community for support since they could not save him. He explained that they have been swimming in the Dam on the shallow end but didnt understand what lured their friend to venture into the deep end.
John Bosco Akore, the secretary of Kotido Elders council, says that he was on his way to meet Elders in Kapeta sub county when he found people gathered around the dam trying to search for the missing boy in vain. ‘’I’m really worried, it’s getting dark and we are still struggling to search for this boy, my only prayer is to let the body float up so we can pick it up,’’ Akore said.
Akore noted that the boy has been living with his grandmother in Morunyang village and the dam was their meeting point with his peers to water the animals and swim. He said that they had resolved to find youths who can swim to help with the search.
Moses Akena, the Kotido District Police commander told URN on the phone that they were yet to receive information on the incident but promised to follow it up. URN
