The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and antiquities has launched a domestic tourism Christmas campaign for the Eastern Uganda route dubbed “Explore Elgon” between December 20 to 23, 2022.
The minister of state for tourism Mr Martin Mugarra Bahinduka will lead the #exploreelgon campaign accompanied by leading social influencers like Sheebah Karungi, comedians Madrat and Chiko, Golola Moses of Uganda ,Miss Tourism and tourism entrepreneur Amos Wekesa.
The minister emphasized that the campaign deliberately included local leaders and artists to pass on messages of conservation “This campaign aimed at engaging the communities in these attractive areas and communicating a message of conservation and development”.
In a press conference held at the ministry headquarters, Mr Gololo said, “We need to localize everything in tourism in that when we go to Mbale part of the package should be to learn the language and taste their staple food.”
The campaign aims at showcasing and promoting the attractions in the Elgon region, inspire travel during the festive season and promote National brand Explore Uganda, the pearl of Africa.
Mount Elgon is located in Eastern Uganda, it is a prominent volcanic mountain that is surrounded by the largest caldera in the world, wagagai. While there you can go on many incredible adventures such as climbing mount elgon, enjoying community tours, viewing the waterfalls and abseiling down sipi falls.
The #Explore Elgon campaign team will join the local community in Mbale to Imbalu dance,hike the imposing Wanale hill and the sipi challenge in Kapchorwa along with a host of other attractions and cultural experiences.
During the launch the ministry urged the general public to participate in this campaign and promote the journey on the hashtags #ExploreUganda #Explore Elgon #Khulambula Elgon to stand a chance to win interesting Christmas gifts.
