The territorial police of Maracha are investigating an accident that left two people dead and five seriously injured. This incident happened at Ayi bridge in Pabura parish, Nyadri Subcounty, Maracha District on Wednesday December 14, 2022 at 7:59 pm.
A statement issued by SP Josephine Angucia the regional spokesperson stated that, “The accident involved two trailers UBB 500F/UBH 645G which was travelling from Koboko heading towards Arua City and UBK 301D/UAS 015C carrying cement from Tororo via Arua City heading to Koboko district. The two vehicles collided at Ayi bridge killing two people instantly. Police visited the scene, documented it and rushed the injured persons to St Joseph’s hospital, Maracha for treatment.”
“The dead bodies were conveyed to the mortuary at the same hospital for postmortem. The deceased have been identified as Aliku Albert male juvenile, pedestrian 17 years, Lugbara by tribe, resident of Yagule village, Pabura parish, Nyadri Subcounty, Maracha district. The other one is an unidentified driver of the trailer that was carrying cement.
The injured include; Draleki Francis 27 years, Lugbara by tribe, resident of Nyoro village, Pabura parish, Nyadri Subcounty, Maracha district; Adrole Migadi male adult 43 years, Lugbara by tribe resident of Tanganyika Ward, Arua City; Lumu Charles male adult 20 years, Kakwa by tribe, resident of Okpoo village, Leiko Parish, Dranya Subcounty, Koboko district; Tabu Sunday 24 years, Peasant resident of Aciku village, Pabura parish, Nyadri Subcounty, Maracha district; the fifth victim is the unidentified driver of the trailer which was coming from Koboko heading to Arua City direction.” The statement added.
Ms Angucia said that the time this information got to them, all the injured survivors were still unconscious and unable to make statements and that the two trailers were still at the scene at Ayi bridge and will be towed to Maracha Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of motor vehicles. Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the accident as reckless driving by both drivers who didn’t slow down to leave a way for each other at the bridge.
The police had urged all motorists to always be careful on the road and abide by traffic regulations to minimize such deadly accidents.
