Three sisters and their Auntie have been confirmed dead in a motor accident that happened in Mpigi District, Nabusanke located in the central region, family has confirmed.
The deceased are believed to have been travelling from Bulinda Kalisizo, Rakai District where they had gone for the last funeral rites of a relative.
The four who died on spot have been identified as Nalwanga Matilda aged 37 a bursar at Zai Islamic primary school Nsangi, Nankya Sumaya a business lady in Busega market, Nakato Ramlah a matron at Zai Islamic Primary School and Nalongo Kamya a trader in Kyengera.
According to the brother of the deceased, Mr Umar Kyeyune, the four persons are said to have died on spot and were rushed to Gombe Hospital.
“It is tough within our family and I hope that we shall move on from this tragic moment. They have gone to be with the creator and may their souls rest in peace,” Mr Kyeyune said.
The accident was a head-on collision involving a bus Reg. No. UAW 561P belonging to Global Coaches and a saloon car Toyota Corolla Fielder Reg. No. UBL 270S. The driver of the Fielder is also said to have died on spot.
This however isn’t the first time accidents involving global coaches have been registered.
On August 18, 2016, a Global Coaches’ driver died and twenty passengers survived with injuries in a midnight accident near Kyazanga Town in Lwengo District along Masaka-Mbarara highway.
On December 20, 2019, another Global bus collided with a Toyota Noah at Nkoni Village on Masaka–Mbabara highway killing seven people and leaving several others injured.
On May 26, 2019, another Global bus heading for Kampala crashed into a house in Mpugwe in Kalungu District after failing to brake.
In June 2019, State Minister for works and Transport Henry Bagiire directed the Transport Licensing Board (TLB) to withdraw with immediate effect the single route chart for Global Bus Company.
He also directed the same board (TLB) to immediately inspect its fleet and individually license all buses that fulfill all road worthiness requirements.
