On Thursday January 12, 2023 security operatives stormed the home of embattled Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and retrieved the government vehicle Reg.no UG 0333H that is assigned to a parliamentary commissioner
Uniformed men, driving in a grey van arrived at Zaake’s home in Nalumunye, Wakiso District and knocked at his gate several times. Trailing behind them was a car carrier.
Upon opening the gate, the operatives started to taw the car onto the car carrier and in no time they had loaded it ready to go. The security guard, according to witnesses tried to explain that the Zaake was not around but the effort was futile.
The car was purged from Zaake’s compound in his absence as he is in Canada for his annual medical check-up following the different brawls he has since suffered.
Mr Chris Obore, the Director of communications and Public affairs of Parliament said that this action was following the directive of the clerk of parliament advising the honorable to return the vehicle since his impeachment from the office of commissioner in March 2022 and he didn’t comply.
“The clerk of parliament had severally advised Hon. Zaake to follow the guidelines governing management of government fleet and return the vehicle but he declined. The police have delivered theit and its safe at parliament parking, ’’ Mr Obore said.
Zaake used his social media pages to condemn the manner in which the vehicle was retrieved even when his case is still under the court process.
“However you might recall that through constitutional petition no.06 of 2022, I challenged my unlawful removal from the commission and any subsequent attempts to deny me the tools I need to execute my functions .At the hearing of the that petition Parliament’s lawyers undertook to respect the court process by refraining from any further action that may disrupt the status quo,’’Zaake posted
He also added “It is therefore disturbing that instead of waiting for the judgment parliamentary authorities have resorted to acting with impunity and contempt of court. Their conduct yesterday was a savage attack on the rule of law which renders parliament subject to and bound by judicial process.”
On March 10 2022, Zaake was impeached and removed from the position of the commissioners of the parliament of Uganda over alleged indiscipline and misconduct. It is alleged that he attacked the speaker of parliament Anita Among via his social media handles in a manner which was tarnishing the image credibility of parliament.
Zaake challenged his impeachment in the constitutional court but he awaits a final judgment from the jury since months after the final trial of the case.
