Police have detained several activists at mini price police station downtown after as they demonstrated agianst iron sheets meant for Karamoja that were mismanaged by various government officials about a month ago.
The They carried and banners among which, one was very big bearing member of parliament photos plus the speaker of the parliament of Uganda Hon. Anita Among tagged as iron sheet thieves coupled with an instruction for the Uganda police to immediately arrest them.
Mr Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, “Charges being pressed on the suspects are un lawful assembly and inciting a police officer.”
While appearing before a parliamentary accountability committee, Minister of finance, planning and economic development Matia Kasaija, a beneficiary as well, stated how he hadn’t asked for them nor did he know they were meant for the vulnerable people in Karamoja.
Kasaija stated this while appearing before the committee on presidential affairs which was then investigating on the mismanagement of relief items.
In the FY 2022/2023, finance minister had to provide 135 billion from uncertainties’ fund to Karamoja residents plus other parts of the country at risk of food scarcity and purchase relief items of maize flour and beans for over 500,000 people.
