In a recent statement said by Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, expressed concerns regarding the President’s delegation of defense and security matters.
The President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni known for being of advanced age, has faced criticism for allowing the first Lady Hon. Janet Museveni to address issues of national security.
The statement was made yesterday 20th Tuesday, 2023 “I know our President is a President of advanced age, the law doesn’t stop the President from delegating, but issues of defence and security are a very serious matter. You can’t run this country that way where your wife says, darling, can I be the one to speak about the attack in Kasese-okay baby go ahead. We need the Minister responsible for Defence here.” said Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, member of parliament Kira Municipality.
Hon. Nganda highlighted the seriousness of defense and security issues and emphasized the need for the Minister responsible for Defense to take charge in such situations. The lawmaker suggested that the President’s approach to running the country, where decisions regarding critical matters are allegedly made by his spouse, could undermine the effectiveness of national security efforts.
While there are no legal restrictions preventing the President from delegating responsibilities, concerns have been raised about the implications of such delegation in crucial areas like defense and security. Some of the critics argue that decisions regarding national security should be made by individuals with the necessary expertise and experience, rather than being influenced by personal relationships or non-experts.
The remarks made by Hon. Nganda have sparked a broader debate on the appropriate delegation of responsibilities within the government, particularly in areas as crucial as defense and security.
However, some of the supporters of the President argue that he has the prerogative to delegate tasks as he sees fit and that the involvement of his spouse might be based on trust and personal dynamics.
The issue has also drawn attention to the need for transparency and accountability in government decision-making processes. Calls have been made for clearer guidelines and protocols regarding the delegation of responsibilities, especially those related to defense and security, to ensure the country’s stability and effective governance.
The public and political analysts are closely monitoring the government’s response to these concerns and any potential changes in the decision-making structure regarding defense and security matters.
