Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has decided to revise the dates for the population census exercise which was meant to happen next month.
Ubos indicated that funding shortfall has forced the authorities to re-assess the timing of the census and explore alternative options.
“A date will have ti be considered bu the government, we had not confirmed the funding at the time but government has been trying to get that funding” – said said Chris N. Mukiza Executive Director
UBOS emphasized that proposals for rescheduling the census will be put forward by the government with recommendations expected from both the Ministry of Finance and Cabinet.
They say, that the government’s input will consider several factors, including available funding, logistical preparations, and the need to ensure accuracy and inclusivity in data collection
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics also assured all key stakeholders, particularly the Ugandan public, that the country is on track to conduct a successful and timely census. The use of cutting-edge technology will facilitate efficient data collection and processing, replacing the traditional paper-based approach.
As preparations continue, UBOS has urged the public to rely on official channels for accurate information and to disregard the false information propagated by the dismissed employees. The forthcoming National Population and Housing Census is a vital national endeavor that will provide essential insights into Uganda’s demographics and housing landscape, informing evidence-based policymaking and driving socioeconomic development.
