A 24-year-old mother in Uganda has been charged with murder after hacking her 4-month-old son to death and boiling his body parts the police have said.
Nadio Manjubo, a resident of Chamanikua village in Yumbe District, is accused of killing her son, Angelo Buga, on July 19. Police say Manjubo hacked the baby to death with a machete and then stuffed his body parts in a saucepan and boiled them.
Manjubo appeared in court on July 21 and was remanded to Yumbe prison. She is scheduled to appear in court again on August 4.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the crime scene was “disturbing” and that it showed how some parents have “lost sense of humanity and love for their children.”
Enanga urged all parents in challenging domestic settings to seek help from the Child and Family Protection Unit, the nearest police station, or other child rights defenders.
“It is painful that the 4-month-old son died at the hands of a mother, who was supposed to keep him safe,” Enanga said.
The case has sparked outrage on social media, with many people calling for Manjubo to be brought to justice.
“This is a horrific crime,” said one Twitter user. “This woman deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
Another Twitter user said: “This is a tragedy. My heart goes out to the baby’s family.”
The case is still under investigation.
