The Ministry of Health has announced the deployment of 1,901 Medical Interns to 58 internship centers nationwide. This long-awaited deployment comes after the Ministry received clearance from the Government, signifying a crucial step in strengthening the nation’s healthcare workforce.
“We are pleased to announce the clearance for the deployment of Medical Interns to our internship centers across the country. This development reaffirms our commitment to building a robust healthcare system and addressing the growing demands for medical services,” stated Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa the Director General of Health Services.
The deployment process was briefly delayed due to financial constraints cited by the government. However, the persistence of the interns’ protests has resulted in a breakthrough, securing the opportunity for them to kickstart their careers. Now the 1,901 Medical Interns will finally have the opportunity to contribute their skills and knowledge to benefit the community.
To support the interns during their training, the Government has allocated a NET monthly allowance of UGX 1,000,000 (One Million Shillings Only) per intern. This financial assistance aims to facilitate their accommodation and ensure they can focus on their apprenticeship program without facing undue financial strain.
“We wish all Medical Interns a successful apprenticeship program, and we are confident that their dedication and passion will make valuable contributions to the nation’s healthcare system,” expressed Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services.
The Medical Interns are expected to report to their respective training centers by 3rd August 2023, as they embark on this critical phase of their medical journey. Hospital Directors are actively engaged in the deployment process, issuing deployment letters, and meticulously organizing the interns’ seamless integration into their new roles.
This deployment signifies a positive step towards strengthening the healthcare workforce and enhancing the quality of medical services available to communities across Uganda. With the Medical Interns’ enthusiasm and dedication, they are poised to make a significant and lasting impact on the nation’s healthcare landscape.
