Four times Presidential Candidate Dr (rtd) Col Kizza Besigye has slummed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) report on the ongoing internal bickering indicating that it did not address the major internal cause of the fights.
Besigye noted that while the report was lacking itself, it also clearly spoke to the leadership that grossly underrated the gravity of the matter where he claims that money had come from President Museveni
“Neither in their findings nor in their recommendations did they seek to address the dirty money. Their report includes biased statements, totally worthless, and did not absolve the suspects,” he said.
He claimed that one could get support from any close associates, even allies from the government itself but not the very person who captured power.
“If anybody would have information that the very problem you want to remove is the one facilitating you and then you keep quiet, aren’t you self-abetting treason and helping the destruction of the mission,” he said.
On July 28, a section of members from the Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) led by the committee of elders adopted a report that was meant to resolve the internal disputes in the party at the time. The report among others sought to promote tolerance and also create much-needed room for reconciliation as there was a waging rift between the party.
For some households, however, this did not speak to the main problem of addressing the financial resources and sources that had caused mayhem in the party.
Besigye, a founding and former FDC party president in a rather much-anticipated event on Monday, at Katonga, Nakesero Road, vigorously reacted to the report, emphasizing that the struggle may not have anything personally directed at individuals, but had everything to do with how they procured change in the country.
Besigye accused secretary general FDC Nandala Mafabi and some party leaders of maliciously receiving funds for the 2021 general
elections.
On his side, the secretary general had entrusted over Three Hundred Million Shillings, having allegedly had some issues with the revenue
authority concerning his accounts.
Two weeks into his suspicions, the former president was subjected to an anonymous call confirming information about the alleged source of
the money and that it was Museveni.
Besigye adds, however, the urge to immediately resolve the matter was frustrated through meetings with some of the suspects where he thus resolved to return the money.
“I am in Rukungiri towards the elections itself and l got a call from hon Nandala that we want the money to be used for agents and that was the first time I heard of the agent’s story,” he said.
Adding, that the money was eventually provided through one of his managers at a petrol station in Nsambya where it was delivered to
one of the party administrators.
Apparently, with even some members of the National Executive Council still in the dark about how much was received three years down the road, the committee of elders was solely relayed on to reveal facts on the matter.
“The committee of elders did not do due delicious to solve the matter, they made zero attempts to establish facts, neither checked party records, accounts nor improved the knowledge that they had before their committee was formed,” Besigye alluded.
Emphasizing that much as the matter was termed sensitive, basics to deal with how much money was received and how it was dispersed weren’t supposed to be that sensitive. He says that there was always a change in approach where that kind of money was received.
The purpose of the money distributed is thus to promote disunity among opposition but also undermine those that seek to use potent means to
get rid of the regime.
He thus urged that it was incumbent for the national council to prepare for the delegate’s conference and see to it that a forensic
the audit is done however requiring a lot of mobilization, organization, and resistance.
This was in addition to the ongoing campaign where some leaders have started engaging grass root structures to ensure that they restore
sanity.
“It is time even as these wrangles are being sorted out and as a liberation of the party process is going on, we have to focus on the
liberation of the country so that one is not to the exclusion of the other,” he urged.
